Wolves Slip by Moose, 2-1 in Shootout

ROSEMONT, Ill.---Chicago Wolves captain Jason Krog tied the game, 1-1, with 2:25 remaining in regulation and right wing Darren Haydar scored in the shootout to give the Wolves a 2-1 shootout victory over the Manitoba Moose at the Allstate Arena Tuesday night.

Wolves goaltender Peter Mannino (6-3-0) stopped all five Moose attempts in the shootout and posted 25 saves on 26 shots in regulation and overtime to pick up his fifth straight win.

After failing to crack the scoreboard for the first 57:35 of the game, Krog finally got Chicago (11-12-1-0) on the board at 17:35 of the third period. The rebound from Haydar’s shot on the power play caromed right to Krog and he fired it through traffic in front of the net, past Moose goaltender Eddie Lack.

Lack (6-4-2) made 17 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped four of five Chicago attempts in the shootout.

“They did a very good job of hemming us in all game and making us play in our own zone,” said Wolves Head Coach Don Lever. “We did a good job on the penalty kill in the third period and overtime and Peter made some big saves, especially in the shootout.”

Manitoba (11-6-0-2) cracked the scoreboard to take a 1-0 lead, which held up for the duration of the game at 14:01 of the second period. With the Moose working on the power play, defenseman Kevin Connauton took a pass from right wing Sergei Shirokov low in the zone and his centering pass across the crease deflected off a Wolves player’s skates and past Mannino.

The Wolves hit the road for a three-game swing this weekend, beginning when they visit the Lake Erie Monsters at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
